Schools Emergency First Aid at Work Course

This Schools First Aid course for School Staff includes the Emergency First Aid at Work (statutory) course, which complies with the current Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981. Successful students receive certificates to show that they are qualified to be First Aiders in the workplace for the next three years.

Who should attend

  • Nominated emergency first aiders, or anyone wanting a comprehensive one day first aid
  • Those teaching over five year olds
  • Student Teachers and NQTs wishing to enhance their CV
  • Teaching Assistants and other school support staff

Course syllabus

  • Health and safety (first aid) regulations
  • Managing an incident
  • The priorities of first aid
  • Treatment of an unresponsive casualty
  • Resuscitation (Adult & Child) including the basic use of a defibrillator (AED)
  • Shock
  • Bleeding (including grazes, nose-bleeds and small wounds)
  • Seizures
  • Burns
  • Stroke
  • Common school injuries (including a Question & Answer session)

Course duration

  • Six hours excluding breaks
  • Courses are normally run over one seven-hour day but other combinations are available, such as two three-hour evenings etc.
  • Weekend courses can be arranged for your group

Course dates

  • Closed courses can be held at your site for your group of up to 12 students at times and date to suit you
  • Individual places available on courses at our various Training Centres. Please visit our Book Here page for courses close to your location. As well as delegates from school environments, there may be delegates from general industry at these Training Centre courses

Assessment

  • Continuous assessment by the Training staff
  • A ten question multiple choice question paper which delegates will be required to correctly answer eight or more questions to pass
  • Delegates will require sufficient fluency in written and spoken English at national literacy level 2 to cope with the course

Certificate

  • An MGM Training Emergency First Aid at Work certificate which is valid for three years
